East Village

"Eclectic" still describes the East Village. St. Mark's Place is well-known for its "counterculture" businesses and Astor Place/Cooper Square is the home of the Public Theater and Cooper Union. The East Village lies east of Greenwich Village, south of Gramercy and Stuyvesant Town, and north of the Lower East Side, and encompasses the neighborhood of Alphabet City (Avenues A - D).
